Front of Skyline High School

Prior to Spring Break, we sent you a communication about the upcoming weapons detection system pilot at Skyline High School. The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our number one priority, and this system aims to enhance our existing security measures. The pilot will launch on Thursday, April 4

Beginning on Thursday, April 4, all students will enter school through one of the following locations:

  • South Lot between Gym and PAC (gates open at 7:30 a.m.)

  • Attendance (gates open at 6:45 a.m.)

  • 200/300 Bike Rack (gates open at 7:30 a.m.)

When going through the detection, please take the following steps:

  • Have your student ID out and visible. IDs on phones are fine.

  • Backpacks should be worn on both shoulders.

  • Remove all electronic devices (laptops, tablets) out of your backpack.

Dress code will be enforced per the student handbook

As we go through the early stages of using this system, we ask students and families to be patient. Parents, consider dropping your students off earlier if possible.

Our staff is aware of the implementation of this program and will take this into consideration towards tardies.

The weapon detection system utilizes advanced technology to identify and alert school administrators to the presence of concealed weapons upon entry to campus. The system is designed to detect metal objects associated with weapons and does not capture or store personal information about individuals. Privacy and confidentiality are top priorities, and the system adheres strictly to applicable laws and regulations.

The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board approved the pilot program at its November 28 meeting.

During this pilot, we will closely monitor the system's effectiveness and gather feedback from students, parents, and staff to assess its impact on safety and school atmosphere.

We understand that discussions about security measures can evoke various emotions and concerns. We encourage an open dialogue and welcome any questions or concerns you may have regarding the implementation of this pilot program.

We will be sharing further communications with a video of the process soon.

Your partnership in creating a safe and nurturing educational environment is invaluable. Together, we can ensure the well-being and success of all students at Skyline High School.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
